AMAA Movie Screening Team Hits Benin City With ‘Adesuwa’ And ‘Otelo Burning’

The Africa Film Academy (AFA) organizers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards (AMAA) have commenced the screening of 2012 award winning movies in five major cities across Nigeria. The event has telecommunication giant, Airtel Nigeria as its main sponsor along with, Arik Air and Digi-print and promises to give movie lovers delightful moments. Starting from Benin City, Edo state, the movies “Adesuwa” and “Otelo Burning,” produced in Nigeria and South Africa respectively, were screened at the Nollywood Cinema’s Royal Hall, Oba Akenzua Cultural Centre, Benin. Other cities where AMAA will be hosting the screening include: Ibadan, Lagos, Enugu, Port Harcourt and Abuja. Airtel Nigeria subscribers were given the chance to win free tickets to attend the Screening, and enjoy an enriching experience. More subscribers who visit and like the AMAA Facebook page stand a chance of being selected to attend the other movie screenings. Chief Executive Officer of the Africa Film Academy, Peace Anyiam-Osigwe noted that the viewing of AMAA winning movies is part of AFA’s efforts to promote African film and cinema locally and internationally. She said: “Africa film makers work hard with very little and managed to build a virile film industry recognized worldwide in terms of both production quality and profitability while also exploring film as a vehicle for development. AMAA was therefore conceptualized to reward African filmmakers”. A major character in the movie “Adesuwa,” Ben Agbota Okoeguale, said: “This effort by AMAA is encouraging. The quality of films that emerge as award winners are commendable and at this time when the old hands that produce this standard of films are aging and in cases like that of late Sam Loco Efe, dying, it’s good to have an organization like AMAA support and encourage films like ADESUWA.” Also among the list of attendees were Henry Iyobosa Legemah, Director of Administration, Africa Movie Academy Awards, Mr. Tony Anih, and a host of others. Ibadan screening of movies will take place on Friday 19 October 2012 at the Theatre Arts Hall, University of Ibadan. “Phone Swap,” a film produced by Kunle Afolayan and “Alero’s Symphony” by Izu Ojukwu both Nigerian productions, are the two movies that will be screened.
